12.11.2022 - Robinson R-22 Beta II HB-ZOF - Maienfeld/GR

According to the press release issued on 13.11.2022 by the Grison cantonal police, a helicopter accident occurred on Saturday morning November 12, 2022, in Maienfeld/GR.
At around 8.30 a.m., a 48-year-old flight instructor and his 45-year-old student pilot took off for a training flight from the heliport of Balzers (Liechtenstein). In the Kammböden/Vorder Alp area, at an altitude of 1,880 m, the pilots made landings.
During the third take-off, however, something went wrong and the Robinson R-22 Beta II call-sign HB-ZOF overturned on the steep terrain and then came to a halt again on the skids.
The two uninjured pilots managed to leave the helicopter alone and alerted the rescue services.
The heavily damaged helicopter was recovered by Swiss Helicopter on behalf of the authorities conducting the proceedings, transported to Jenins with a tractor and trailer, and from there transported to Payerne by truck for further investigation.
Under Article 98 of the Aviation Act, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland is responsible for the prosecution of offences committed on board an aircraft.
In order to clarify the exact course of events and the cause of the accident, experts of the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSB) have opened an inquiry.
The investigation is being conducted with the support of the public prosecutor's office and the Grison cantonal police.
