Heli Archive (HA) is first and foremost the result of a private collection of books, magazines, newspaper articles, flight manuals, brochures, photographs, films, and all kinds of documents relating to the history of civil helicopters.
The idea of creating this archive was born many years ago through encounters with pilots, mechanics, and other people who experienced the pioneering years of the helicopter firsthand and who were among the first to believe in the extraordinary potential of this fascinating aircraft.
It was their stories that inspired me to begin a research project which continues today with the same enthusiasm with which it began in the early 1990s, and which still occupies an important part of my free time. Some of these pioneers are no longer with us. Preserving their testimonies and documenting their experiences also means keeping alive the memory of a generation that played a decisive role in the development and spread of the helicopter in civil aviation.
It is thanks to their generosity, and that of many other people who over the years have made documents, photographs, and personal memories available, that HA can now share part of the material collected. Particular attention is devoted to the history of helicopters in Switzerland and to the people who promoted and developed their use in civil aviation.
Over the years, what began as a personal collection has evolved into a specialized digital library dedicated to helicopters, characterized by an ever-growing and increasingly detailed body of documentation.
Unfortunately, a significant amount of historical documentation has been lost. Some archives have been destroyed, others dispersed, and in many cases even the companies themselves no longer retain documents relating to their own history. Every photograph, document, manual, or personal testimony that can be recovered may therefore represent a small but important piece of a heritage that is at risk of disappearing.
This is also why one of HA's objectives is to recover and preserve historically significant material before it is lost forever.
In collecting and publishing names, dates, places, and other information, I have always tried to achieve the highest possible level of accuracy. Errors or inaccuracies may nevertheless occur, and I would be grateful to anyone who brings them to my attention and helps to verify and correct them.
I would naturally like to thank everyone who has contributed, in any way, to the creation and development of this project.
